Okells Mixed Singles Event

22 June 2013 //  by Admin//  Leave a Comment

After a long time in the preparation it was good to get the Okells Mixed Singles Event under way.
Big thanks have to go to Okells Brewery who took up challenge to support our 125th Anniversary.
Steve Pickett and Judith Cusack came through with flying colours to make the event as successful as it was.
To think that 125 years ago Dr. Okell had the vision to create a public house with a bowling green. I wonder if he realised then the legacy that he was leaving the Island?
The Competition started off immediately after the June Bowling Festival presentations and immediately threw some really big pairing together. The object of the exercise was to reduce the entry to 32 so that the competition could be played to a conclusion on the Saturday to accomodate the visiting bowlers getting their travel arrangements in order.
So…
We came down to the surviving 4 semi finalists.
Left to right.. Peter Collister (South Ramsey), Dave Bradford (Onchan), Judith Cussack Marketing Manageress for Okells Brewery, Kevin Quirk (Onchan), Glynn Hargraves (Onchan).

The weather was just what the doctor ordered. (Is there a pun in there somewhere?)

The green had been cut first thing in the morning and this produced some really testing conditions for the competitors.

Once again Okells came up trumps by supplying the semi-finalists with branded sports shirts for the occassion.

To keep the interest going throughout the competition there were also supplementary prizes to be won.

The culmination of the event saw a really exciting final between Keving Quirk and Dave Bradford. Judith Cusack from Okells was totally absorbed in the game and the atmosphere of the game.

Dave eventually got the better of Kevin and went on to receive the inaugural presentation of the Okells Mixed Singles Title.
