Crown Green Bowls tournament brings best players in the world to Island

29 April 2015 //  by Admin//  1 Comment

The Isle of Man’s top crown green bowlers will be able to test their skills against the best in the world as they take part in the Endsleigh Senior County Championships on Sunday, May 3. A home fixture will be held at the Peel Sunset Bowling Club from 12:30 pm with an away game in Shropshire on the same day.

Ahead of the Championships, Minister of Education and Children Tim Crookall MHK, whose department includes Manx Sport and Recreation, offered his congratulations to the organisers and his best wishes to all participants, especially those visiting from the UK.

“The hard-working volunteers from the Isle of Man Crown Green Bowls Association, and specifically those who have helped deliver their long-established development plan, deserve credit for bringing their vision to life with these inaugural fixtures.

“The Championships are considered to offer the highest level of Crown Green Bowls competition in the world. There are exciting times ahead for the sport, after some excellent work by the Isle of Man Association’s Development Officer Mark Kneen to secure the Island’s participation,” he said.

Minister Crookall concluded: “Providing opportunities in sport for all people on the Isle of Man, whether they are young or old is a key objective of the recently published Isle of Man Strategy for Sport.

“It is hugely encouraging to see how this has been achieved by the Association not only through their involvement with the Endsleigh Senior County Championships but also in their work with young participants in the Manx Youth Games and the Government’s Holiday Schemes.”

My husband Andy Kirkland is trying to make contact with Tony Schofield. They knew each other when they were young, and Tony’s parents took Andy on holiday one year.
We believe Tony is a member of a bowls club in the IOM and wonder if you can help.
    With many thanks, Stephanie Kirkland
