Douglas Bowling Club Newsletter March 2018

19 March 2018 //  by Admin//  Leave a Comment

The Green
As always, the green is looking great, even better than last year – all thanks to Ian and his helpers at the end of last season and Ian’s ongoing work through the winter.

The green will be open to members from 12pm on Saturday 24 March – after the Manx Youth Games coaching.

Easter Egg Roll – Saturday 24 March, 1pm start
The Easter Egg Roll will take place on 24 March and will incorporate the Manx America Cup.

Douglas is in need of new members, male and female of all ages, so please bring along a friend.

Coaching for new bowlers will be available from 12pm with the competition starting at 1pm. It will be run as a round robin – pairs or triples depending on the numbers – so new bowlers won’t find themselves bowling alone; they’ll be well supported by an experienced bowler.

If you know of anyone looking to take up bowls bring them along – it’ll be a great way for them to get started and meet everyone.

The draw will take place at 12.50pm, so please be at the green by 12.45pm. Entry is £2 and everyone gets an Easter Egg – the winners will receive larger eggs and, of course, the Manx America Cup.

Food will be available on the day – likely to be pasty and cake. Come along, meet your fellow bowlers and pay your subs!

Membership Fees
Full members: £50, Juniors: £10, New bowlers: £35 for the first year, Social bowlers: £20.

Club competitions
We plan to hold as many club competitions as possible this season. The dates for these will be announced when the season’s fixtures are finalised, so please keep an eye on the notice board or the website.

Many of our club comps are handicapped, so new bowlers will receive an advantage over more experienced bowlers.

Jack and Jean Isherwood comp – 25 April, starts at 10.30am
This mixed over-60’s competition will be held at the Villa. Entry is open to all over 60’s men and women. Please contact Norman Kneen on 452294 to enter.

DBC Open Competitions

  • 14 April Mixed Doubles – sponsored by Avant Amenity IOM
  • 27 May Mixed Doubles – sponsored by Haldane Fisher
  • 18 August Men’s and Ladies’ Town Cups – will start at 10.30am due to first day of MGP practice
