Douglas Bowling Club Newsletter March 2017

16 March 2017 //  by Admin//  Leave a Comment

The Green
The green is looking great, perhaps the best it’s been for years. Thanks to Ian and his helpers for all their hard work at the end of last season and Ian’s ongoing work through the winter. The green will be open to members from 12pm on Saturday 25 March after the Manx Youth Games coaching.

Easter Egg Roll – Saturday 25 March, 1pm start
To take full advantage of the time before the start of the season, the Easter Egg Roll will take place on 25 March and will incorporate the Manx America Trophy.

Coaching will be available from 12pm for new bowlers with the comp starting at 1pm. If you know of anyone looking to take up bowls, why not bring them along.

The draw will take place at 12.50pm, so please be at the green by 12.45pm. The afternoon will be run in a round robin format – a great way to get to know your fellow members. Entry is £2 and everyone gets an Easter Egg – the winners will receive larger eggs and, of course, the Manx American trophy.

Food will be available on the day – likely to be pasty and cake. Come along, meet your fellow bowlers and pay your subs!

Membership Fees
Full members: £50, Juniors: £10, New bowlers: £35 for the first year, Social bowlers: £20.

Club competition – Sunday 2 April, President’s Cup, 1pm start
Our second club competition of the season will be the President’s Cup, a handicapped mixed singles competition.

Entries can be made via a competition sheet in the clubhouse or text Stuart (temporary comp sec) on 241127.

Practising will be allowed before the start. Don’t forget that this is a handicapped competition, so new, inexperienced bowlers will be given the maximum handicap of +6, while A-team players will be playing off a minimum of -6.

Jack and Jean Isherwood comp – Friday 28 April – 10.30am
This mixed over-60s competition is to be held at Douglas Bowling Club. Entry is open to all over 60s men and women with the winner representing the island at Preece on 5 July. Entry fee £2.50. Please contact Norman Kneen on 452294 to enter.

Request for bowls
This year the club is entering a fourth team in the Men’s division. Most of the players in the D team are novices and do not have their own bowls. If anyone has a spare set lying around that they wish to sell, please contact Roy Williams on 452088.

This year’s club fixture books will be printed in time for the start of the season and will be issued to you when you pay your membership fees.
