Great inroads have been made during the winter period. We hope you’ll all be pleasantly surprised when you turn up for your first roll.
Ian and his band of merry helpers have whipped the green into shape and it is probably looking the best it has for a few years.
We now have handrails back in the corners with advertising displayed by our various sponsors. This will offset some of the costs of looking after the green and the repayments on the new mower. Thanks has to go to the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure for taking on board our concerns about the green and allowing us to fulfil our stewardship of this proud Club as it should be – the premier bowling club on the Island.
It will be all hands to the pumps this year in readiness for 2013 (our 125th Anniversary). If you think you have some novel ideas for this event please make sure you let one of the Committee know. We already have a sack full of ideas but who’s to say that your suggestion isn’t the one that knocks everything into a cocked hat?
We all have a responsibility to get the Villa back to where it once belonged. Visitors used to step off the boat and make the Villa their target for the Thursday. It was a feather in your cap to have been involved at the Villa on the Thursday and especially the Friday.
This year the teams look as though they are going to be over-subscribed so competition for places is going to be fierce.
What are your thoughts on having more Club competitions?
For those who are unfortunately not going to be getting regular league bowling it is going to one way of playing regularly and at a decent standard. Having said that… If everything goes well this season and we manage to get our B Team into the 2nd Division, it will give us the opportunity to start a 3rd Team and get more members playing regular league matches.
Mull it over… Have a cuppa and a good think.
