Newsletter for March 2013

8 March 2013 //  by Admin//  Leave a Comment

We hope you have all wintered well….

OK…… The green is open and ready for play whenever you want. I know that’s the big question on everyone lips.

So…. What’s gone on over the winter? Good question. You’ll notice that the green has been lifted and all of the surrounding timber has been replaced. (The green might be marginally smaller in area BUT larger in actual playing area. Master it well.)

The Manx Sport and Recreation have been using the green since February to encourage the youth of the Island to become involved in Crown Green Bowls and also to prepare them for the Youth Games that take place in May.

The green is running as good as it did in the height of the summer of last year. (What summer?? You know what I mean.) It could be a scary season.

The old clubhouse has been totally gutted and refurbished and this will now become the new catering facility. We’ve even got constant hot water thanks to a kind donation from Ariston Boilers. The kitchen units were kindly offered by Magnet and the carpet tiles came courtesy of Swales.

Tommy has done a grand job painting and fitting the place out. Be patient with him if he gets a tad possessive of his baby. Bless him..

The Club will be getting increased in size this season with the influx of quite a few new members. The night leagues will have no problems fulfilling all of their obligations however we might struggle a bit with the Over 60’s Mens B Team and could do with a few Over 60’s Ladies to back up their teams.

If you think you know anyone who fits the criteria or anyone who is interested in taking up the game please don’t hesitate to bring them along and show them the ropes.

This year we are producing a Club Fixture and Rule book for everyone. Bear with us for the first season and give us your feedback as to what you would like to see in our future Club handbooks. The books will be available next week (15th March ish). As soon as you have paid your subs the book will be handed to you.

The first event of the season is going to be the Grand Easter Egg Roll. £2 entry fee. Round Robin basis. Everyone gets a chucky egg. Ahh!

Enjoy your season. Hope the weather is kinder to us this year. The Committee is looking forward to seeing everyone down at the green.

Good Luck to All of the Teams
